While you will find a substantial number of books on the subject of
underachievers, the vast majority of them do not address giftedness at all.
Of those that do, the author whose work gets the most attention is generally
Sylvia Rimm. She has written and spoken extensively about what she calls
"The Underachievement Syndrome." There are folks who swear by her
work. I am not among them.
To me,
there are really two books that are heads and shoulders above the others:
Giftedness,
Conflict and Underachievement
by Joanne Rand Whitmore
and
Reaching
the Gifted Underachiever
by Patricia Supplee.
